 | SLIGHT OF HAND: It's not the worst lot, to be born the Prince of Sorcery and Deceit, not hardly. There are numerous perks that come with the gig, not the least of which are inherited (and rather atypical) riches, instant celebrity, some fifty legions of froth-mouthed drones at your beck and call, and a vast store of supernatural gifts to draw upon out of either leisure or necessity. It's a charmed life, if you like that sort of thing. Of course, commanding an army of ruffians can grow a bit tedious when you prefer to operate (mysteriously! criminally! dashingly!) alone, a tendency toward pathological lying might be a detriment when you actually choose to tell the truth, and brimstone is the most putrid of smells—but there's really only one major snag. Isn't it a touch inconvenient when you detest the one from whose blood you were created? If Lucifer weren't such an ignominious bastard . . . . . . Let's just say 'daddy issues' doesn't begin to cover it, shall we? And Mephisto will be quick to inform you his famously hypnotic charm does not come from that side of the family. Now, then: who's up for a little game of cards? | |
